About this feature
JPG to PNG converts a compressed photo into a lossless image. The PNG file will typically be 3–5× larger than the source JPG — converting a 500 KB JPG often produces a 2 MB PNG. Importantly, converting JPG to PNG does NOT restore the quality JPG threw away: compression artifacts already baked into the JPG remain visible after conversion. So this is rarely done to "improve quality". The genuinely useful reasons are: (1) you need transparency support added on top of the photo (e.g., to mask edges in a design tool), (2) you are sending the file to a workflow that strictly requires PNG (some print drivers, badge generators, or icon pipelines), or (3) you need a copy that won't be re-encoded with further loss on every edit. If none of those apply, keep the original JPG — PNG will make the file larger without making it look better.
PNG is best for graphics that need transparency, sharp edges, screenshots, logos, UI images, and artwork with text. It keeps image detail well, but files can become large when the image contains many colors.
Questions
When should I convert JPG to PNG?
Use this conversion when you need better compatibility, a different upload format, or an image file that works better for your publishing workflow. PNG files may be easier to use in certain browsers, apps, document editors, marketplaces, or website builders.
Will converting an image reduce its quality?
Some formats use lossy compression and others preserve more detail. The tool is designed to keep a practical balance between visual quality, file size, and compatibility for everyday web and design use.
Can I use the converted PNG image on my website?
Yes. After converting the image, you can use the PNG file in website pages, blog posts, product listings, documents, and content management systems that support this format. Always preview the final image before publishing.
Should I compress the image after conversion?
If the converted file is still large, compression can help. For web pages, smaller files usually load faster and create a better experience for visitors on mobile and slower networks.
